UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS

REGULAR MEETING – DECEMBER 9, 2013 – 7:37 P.M.

 

The Regular Meeting of the Corsica Board of Education was held Monday, December 19, 2013 at 7:37 p.m. in Classroom A of the High School.

 

Board Members Present:  Jeremy Wright, President; Vanessa Miiller, Kent DeBoer, Jason Lagge, Nicole Bamberg and Jared Gerlach.

 

Members Absent:  Bob Bamberg

 

Officers Present:  Vern DeGeest, Superintendent; Scott Muckey, Secondary Principal; Merna Bye, Business Manager.

 

Guest Present:  Kris Van Zee, Globe Reporter, Shelly Menning, District Patron

 

President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. and a quorum was present.

 

Approve Agenda

Motion by Miiller seconded by Lagge to approve the agenda with the additions as presented. Carried.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the November 11, 2013 minutes.  Carried.

 

Approval of Financial Statement

Motion by Lagge seconded by Miiller to approve the November 2013 Financial Statement.  Carried.

 

November 2013 Trust and Agency Report

Motion by Lagge seconded by Miiller to approve the November 2013 Trust and Agency Report with a beginning balance of $14,021.36, disbursements of $6,573.35; receipts of $6,698.34 for an ending balance of $14,146.35.  Carried.

 

Approval of Bills

DeBoer moved to approve the listing of bills presented for the December 9, 2013 meeting.  Seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.

 

November 2013 Mid-Central Meeting Minutes

Motion by Lagge seconded by DeBoer to approve the November 2013 Mid-Central Co-op minutes.  Carried.

 

Joint School Committee and Public Meeting Notes

Notes from the Joint School Committee and Public Meetings were reviewed by the board.

 

Senior Trip

Motion by Miiller to approve the annual Senior Class trip to visit the legislature and State Capitol Building on February 10, 2014.  Seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.

Accreditation Information

The desk audit review for accreditation went well with the State Department.  Corsica School met all the requirements set forth by the State of South Dakota and is recognized by the Department of Education as an accredited school district through the 2018-2019 school year.

 

Others

Other items discussed were bussing concerns and the Board of Education has determined that beginning immediately, they would like to see all classes K-12 recite the Pledge of Allegiance each morning.

 

Executive Session

At 8:42 p.m., motion by Nicole Bamberg seconded by Miiller to go into executive session to discuss personnel issues.  Carried.  Declared out of executive session at 10:40 p.m. by the President. 

 

Adjourn

There being no further business, at 10:41 p.m. motion by Lagge seconded by Miiller to adjourn.  Carried.  The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom A.
