UNAPPROVED MINUTES OF OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS
REGULAR MEETING – APRIL 9, 2012 – 7:44 P.M.
CLASSROOM “A” OF THE HIGH SCHOOL
The Regular Meeting of the Corsica Board of Education was held on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 7:44 p.m. in Classroom A of the high school.
Members Present: Jeremy Wright, Vanessa Miiller, Richard Muilenburg, Jason Lagge, Nicole Bamberg, Jared Gerlach.
Members Absent: Bob Bamberg
Officers Present: Vern DeGeest, Superintendent; Scott Muckey, Secondary Principal and Merna Bye, Business Manager.
Guest Present: Kris VanZee, Globe Reporter.
President Wright called the meeting to order at 7:44 p.m. and a quorum was present.
Motion by Nicole Bamberg seconded by Lagge to approve the agenda with the additions as presented. Carried.
Motion by Lagge seconded by Muilenburg to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2012 Regular School Board Meeting. Carried.
Motion by Lagge seconded by Miiller to approve the March 2012 Financial Statement as presented. Carried.
Motion by Muilenburg seconded by Gerlach to approve the March 2012 Trust and Agency Report with a beginning balance of $10,491.98 disbursements of $9,083.33; receipts of $10,729.81 for an ending balance $12,138.46. Motion carried.
Miiller moved to pay the bills as listed. Seconded by Lagge and carried.
Motion by Lagge seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the March 2012 Mid-Central Minutes. Carried.
Employment Agreements
Motion by Nicole Bamberg seconded by Miiller to approve the signed Employment Agreements for 2012-2013 of Jean VanGenderen, Rod Bormann, Cindy Bosma, Kristie Burke, Carol Bolt, Al Fey, Marvin Cook, Jennifer DeLange, Doris Metzger, Brenda Dykstra, Ruth Benton, Dennis & Elaine Plooster. Carried.

SDHSAA Member
Resolution #220
By resolution, the School Board of the Corsica School District has authorized membership in the South Dakota High School Activities Association for the high school under its jurisdiction as hereinafter listed: CORSICA HIGH SCHOOL – This is to be for the period which begins July 1, 2012 and ends on June 30, 2013, with the supervision, control and regulation of any and all high school interscholastic activities being delegated to said Association.
In addition, the above-mentioned School Board has ratified the constitution, By-Laws and rules of the South Dakota High School Activities Association as of July 1, 2012 and agrees to conduct its activities programs within the framework of these instruments. Motion by Gerlach seconded by Muilenburg to adopt the above Resolution – UPON ROLL CALL VOTE: Aye – Miiller, Muilenburg, Lagge, Nicole Bamberg, Gerlach, Wright – (Bob Bamberg – absent). Motion carried.
Audit Quotes
Motion by Lagge to accept the quote of $5,600.00 from Schoenfish and Co. for the FY 2012 audit. Motion seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.
Marching Band
Uniforms
A proposal for new marching band uniforms was presented to the board. Corsica’s share of the uniforms is $4,204.00 and the request from Mike Nepodal, music director, was to have the district pay for ˝ of the uniforms in the amount of $2,102.00. Motion by Miiller to pay Corsica School’s entire amount of $4,204.00 – this motion died for lack of a second. Motion by Gerlach seconded by Muilenburg that the district pays the requested amount of $2,102.00. All present aye except for Miiller who voted naye – motion carried.
Cell Phone Usage
Discussion was held on cell phone usage while operating a school owned vehicle. The board instructed the Superintendent to obtain legal advice on this matter. In the mean time notices will be handed out to each employee stating that any driver of a motor vehicle which is privately owned and operated for compensation, or which is owned, leased or otherwise operated by, or for the benefit of the Corsica School District and is operated for the transportation of children to or from school or school sponsored activity shall not operate a cell phone unless the vehicle is safely off the road with the parking brake engaged.
Pre-School for
2012-2013
Motion by Nicole Bamberg seconded by Gerlach to reinstate charges of $15.00 per month for Little Star Learners and $30.00 per month for Preschool beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. Carried.
Joint School
Committee
Discussion was held on the March 21, 2012 meeting of the Joint Schools Committee with the Stickney Joint Schools Committee. The next meeting will be held on April 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Corsica High School.

Sick Leave Approval
Motion by Miiller to pay for any unused sick leave, at the rate of $10.00 per day up to 45 days, for Sandy Entringer, who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Motion seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried.
Summer Driver’s
Education
Motion by Miiller seconded by Muilenburg to pay $15.00 per hour to Bob Krietlow, Stickney for actual driving instruction for the summer 2012 drivers education students. Carried.
Others
Other items discussed were Mid-Central Cooperative School Board Workshop, District Health Insurance rates for 2012-2013, Title I Summer School Program, track resurfacing project fundraiser and staff development/in-services.
Executive Session
At 9:23 p.m., motion by Lagge seconded by Nicole Bamberg to go into executive session to discuss negotiations and staffing. Carried. At 9:54 p.m. declared out of executive session by President Wright.
Health Services
Contract 2012-2013
Motion by Lagge seconded by Muilenburg to approve the 2012-2013 Health Services Contract with Douglas County Memorial Hospital. Carried.
Adjourn
There being no further business, at 10:04 p.m., motion by Lagge to adjourn, seconded by Nicole Bamberg and carried. The next regular meeting will be held Monday, May 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom A of the high school.
