Minutes of the Corsica Area Community Foundation (CAF)

October 10, 2001—7:00 AM

A meeting of the Corsica Area Community Foundation was held at Cheryl’s Place in Corsica, SD on Wednesday, October 10, 2001.

Those present were Dick Bordewyk, Cheryle Van Zee, Roger Bordewyk, Sylvia Zomer, Tom Gerlach, Gary Van Roekel and Mark Spitzenberger.

The meeting began with Roger Borewyk circulating a mission statement, and explaining the web site(address—www.Corsica.k12.sd.us-go to community, scroll to Corsica Foundation or Welcome to Corsica sign) and its contents.

Mark Spitzenberger presented the group with a $1500 donation from Cenex Harvest States matched by a $1500 donation from Land O’Lakes. Sylvia Zomer will open an account at Community First with those donations including the $1000 from the Corsica Alumni Association donation.

Tom Gerlach will set up a thermometer with a goal of $100,000 showing levels of $50,000 and $62,500 where the state match will be received.

Various ways of keeping the public informed were discussed. Consensus was to keep updates on the Corsica Web page. An alumni letter was discussed. Some individuals have indicated they will donate postage for the first mailing. Roger Bordewyk will find out when the city anticipates celebrating Corsica’s centennial.

Roger Bordewyk will order more CAF brochures. Brochures will be put out at the Development Corporation meeting.

Committees will be set up with various volunteers to contact organizations and businesses for donations—several individuals were suggested. Roger Bordewyk will approach these persons.

Members were reminded to keep promoting CAF to keep the organization in the minds of the public. Information packets will be put together for persons who are interested in learning more about CAF, and an article will be put in next week’s Globe.

Next meeting is planned for November 14^th, 7:00 AM at Cheryl’s Place.
