MINUTES OF THE
CORSICA AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (CAF)
April 12, 2002 –
7:00 A.M.
A meeting of the Corsica Area Community Foundation was held at Cheryl’s Place on Friday, April 12, 2002.
Those present were Sylvia Zomer, Cheryl VanZee, Roger Bordewyk, Dick Bordewyk,
Gary VanRoekel, Vern DeGeest, and Mark Spitzenberger.
The CAF meeting was called to order by President Roger Bordewyk.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read, and no corrections were noted.
Roger Bordewyk started the meeting with a brief discussion on the financials.
Roger expressed that the foundation activities have not been progressing as rapidly as desired, and encouraged the group to pick-up-the-pace.
Sylvia distributed a letter prepared by Joy Blom. The letter was briefly discussed followed by a suggestion that the CAF and the concerned group of alumni should probably get together in the very near future.
It was mentioned that 2005 is the year for Corsica’s 100 year birthday reunion. It was mentioned that a definite date should be determined soon.
President Bordewyk suggested that a meeting should be called with invitations to some successful Foundation Groups to hopefully benefit our organization. Wessington Springs and Burke were suggested. It was also mentioned that this should be public meeting.
The “goal thermometer” was discussed. It was indicated that some preliminary sketches have been made. Location for the thermometer was also considered. The Legion Building grant and the Projected Park area on main street, plus possible grant opportunities surfaced during this discussion. Cheryl and Roger will finalize the sketches for the thermometer, and secure Mrs. Cleveland to paint it.
Some sample brochures were distributed. Do we need to develop a Corsica specific brochure? The consensus was to wait until the next couple of meetings are held.
Our President will attempt to organize a meeting between the CAF and “Alumni Group” to determine some common ground as we continue to move forward. The “Public Meeting” will be scheduled on a date following the CAF-Alumni Group meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 7:50 A.M.
Vern DeGeest, Secretary
